iGoogle Skins

By Martin English | July 23, 2007

Custom iGoogle Skins is a gadget you drop on your iGoogle homepage which lets you select from a variety of user-created themes. (This being a gadget in itself it’s much easier to use than what was brainstormed here in March.) Right now, some of the skins available are “Digg” ??” which will paint your Google homepage in Digg colors ??” or “BBC”, “Pink Heffalump”, and “Dreams”. The gadget also tells you how to create a new skin on your own, and using another tab, you can directly submit your creation.

UPDATE: For what it’s worth, I’ve created my own skin. If you want to test, use the settings of the gadget to test it (click on thumbnail below)

One tip that I missed is that if you use subversion to manage your code, you must set the mime-type of the CSS file correctly i.e.svn propset svn:mime-type text/css filename For testing purposes, the CSS file for the first All Blacks theme is http://igskinallblacks.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/allblacks/allblacks.css
