free (as in beer) IBM Lotus Symphony
By Martin English | October 2, 2007
After announcing that it would join the OpenOffice.org developer community, IBM has launched its own standalone office application suite. Like OpenOffice.org, the ‘new’ IBM Lotus Symphony includes a word processor, spreadsheet application, and presentation software. That shouldn’t be surprising, as the software was developed using technology from the open source OpenOffice.org.
In ‘poltical’ terms, the big point is that Lotus Symphony is based on the Open Document Format (ODF) standard. According to this FAQ, the Lotus Symphony tools are no different from the embedded productivity tools delivered in IBM Lotus Notes v. 8:
. IBM Lotus Symphony was IBM Productivity tools
. Lotus Symphony Documents was Lotus Documents
br> . Lotus Symphony Spreadsheets was Lotus Spreadsheets
. Lotus Symphony Presentations was Lotus Presentations
There are a few ways to download the program without first signing up.

- Try the direct download link for the Windows version.
If anyone has a good direct download link for the Linux version, let us know in the comments.
