Save Flash Games on your hard drive
By Martin English | December 20, 2007
The kids love to play flash games. What would be nice, not say safer, is the ability to save flash games on your hard drive to play them without an Internet connection. Ghacks.net has a nice video describing how to do this.
Basically, you use the view page” or “View Source” functionality of your browser to find and save the .SWF file that contains the game.
Find a website or page that displays a flash game on its website. View the source or page. (Firefox: View > Page Source Internet Explorer: View -> Source).
Search the source for a url that ends with the swf file extension (search for the term .swf). This is the location of the flash game on the server. Copy that address and paste it into the browser window again. (Note that you may have to allow for absolute versus relative paths).
The flash game should load just fine. Go to File > Save Page As in Firefox and the flash game should be saved on your hard drive.
To play the game, either drag-and-drop the file into your favorite browser, or assign your browser as the application open these files (via the open with dialog) which would mean that you only need to double-click the flash games to start them.
