Run OpenOffice.org in a web browser
By Martin English | January 2, 2008
Online desktop startup Ulteo has released a beta version of a web-based interface for OpenOffice.org 2.3. You can launch any OpenOffice application including Writer, Calc, Impress, Base, or Draw.
It is quite obviously in beta; it loads slowly and navigation is difficult. But the concept is workable. The goal is to integrate OpenOffice.org with Ulteo’s online desktop, which is currently only available to registered beta testers. Users will get 1GB of free online storage space and the ability to create and edit files from any computer with a web browser.
Ulteo also has a pretty decent pedigree. The company’s chairman is Gael Duval, founder of Mandriva Linux.
