Firefox 3 and add-on compatibility
By Martin English | February 15, 2008
The third beta of the upcoming Firefox 3 has been released by the Mozilla Firefox team and is available for download in all supported languages and for all three operating systems on the official website. For a list of all changes check out the release notes. Please note that this is still a beta release published for testing purposes.
A week or so ago I blogged on updating the compatibility of firefox addons (i.e. (theme or extension). It turns out that there is another (perhaps simpler). Open Firefox and type ‘about:config’ (without the quotation marks) in the address bar.
- Right-click anywhere in the window and select New > Boolean. A box named new boolean value will open. Type extensions.checkUpdateSecurity in the preference field. Click OK. Set its value to False.
- Similarly, create another new boolean value entry. This time, type extensions.checkCompatability. Like earlier, set the value to False.
Note that this won’t guarantee that the extension or add-on is compatible with Firefox 3. It just stops Firefox from checking, when you attempt to install the add-on.
