Hijacking does not equal terrorism
By Martin English | February 25, 2008
There are some interesting things to come out of the the hijacking in New Zealand two weeks ago.
Number one is that it was a traditional hijacking. After 9/11, security experts were saying that the era of airplane hijacking was over, that it would no longer be possible to hijack an airplane and demand a ransom or demand passage to some exotic location. It turns out that that they were wrong; there still can be traditional non-terrorist hijackings.
Number two is the media reaction. Check the links above; They’re calm, reasoned and above all non-sensationalised – There is no talk of New Zealand disappearing in a cloud of smoke. No mention of the T word at all. If anything, they’re recommending that everyone not overreact.
None of the journalists concerned would get a job on the fox network !.
